Maintenance and Insurance of Instruments
If your instrument has been bought from a recognised dealer, it will generally be set up to achieve it best performance. However, if you have an old instrument or one not bought recently from a recognised dealer you may wish to have it checked out and set up for you, in which you might consult a luthier, who can also re-hair bows.
You may also wish to insure your instrument. Many people have their instruments included in their house insurance, but it would be sensible to have a receipt or certificate indicating the value of the instrument. More expensive instruments are often insured separately by specialist companies, and most luthiers can put you in touch with these insurers.
The presence of the names of luthiers on the following list should not be taken as a recommendation, and it is sensible to ask around.
