YLSS is off to the seaside again!

This year you can choose to:

 ·         Join in the tried-and-tested Friday to Sunday Weekend

·         Extend your stay to add in a full day Study Day on Bank Holiday Monday or

·         Come just for the Study Day on Monday only.    

VENUE:  Cober Hill, Cloughton, near Scarborough

 Cober Hill is a conference centre/guest house 6 miles north of Scarborough, on the coast about a mile from the sea. It is about 2 hours by car from Leeds or by train to Scarborough then bus or taxi.

 A new wing of the building is booked exclusively for YLSS – modern accommodation with all rooms ensuite.  There’s a large hall with piano, a lounge and rooms for smaller groups.

ACCOMMODATION:

There are 32 places available, 12 in single rooms and 20 in twin rooms. All rooms have en-suite WC, bath and/or shower. There are different rates for shared and single rooms. If you are willing to share it will be helpful if you can arrange a room-sharer for the weekend and state this on the booking form. If you are willing to share but do not have a room-sharer we will try to find one wherever possible. Please note on the booking form if you have any dietary or access requirements.

THE WEEKEND:

Friday 22 May – Sunday 24 May 2009 (Spring Bank Holiday weekend)

This will be another fun and friendly music-making weekend, with four amazing tutors covering all the bowed strings, for ‘late starters’ of any standard.  Simplified parts will be provided as needed.

 The programme  will be a mix of playing together in a large group and smaller ensembles, technique sessions and extra surprises.  There will be time to play in a chamber group if you wish, or just to relax, walk to the beach, find the village pub or whatever suits you.

 Room keys and self-service refreshments will be available from 3.00pm on Friday.  Practice rooms will be available in the afternoon for anyone to use.

 The first session of the weekend, for early arrivals, will start at 5.00pm.

 Dinner will be at 7.00pm, followed by a full orchestra session. 

The weekend  finishes with afternoon tea on Sunday around 4.00 p.m.

THE STUDY DAY:                             

Monday 25 May 2009  10.00am – 5.00pm (Spring Bank Holiday Monday)

 This is a new addition to YLSS’s programme, in response to feedback last year, and we hope that enough people will wish to take part to make this viable.

We will be studying a single orchestral work for the day, with YLSS’s Principal Conductor, George Kennaway.  Our aim is to get to know the piece well, improve our playing and achieve a good standard in a playthrough at the end of the day.  Late starters of any standard are welcome and simplified parts will be provided as needed.

COST:                    

Weekend 

(Friday p.m. – Sunday p.m. inclusive of all meals from Friday evening meal to Sunday lunch)            

 *  A small number of places at reduced rates of £125 (shared) and £135 (single) are available for YLSS members on limited income who would not otherwise be able to come. Please see booking form.

** A reduction of £10 will be made if you do not require an evening meal at Cober Hill on Sunday and prefer to eat out (you can decide this nearer the time).

 BOOKING:

YLSS members:     Booking opens 1 November 2008

Non-members:      Booking opens 1 December 2008          

Places will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis, when your deposit is received.

 Please note that in order to keep a balance in the orchestra there will be a maximum of 12 places for cellos.

 A waiting list will be held if there are more applications than places available.

 CANCELLATION:

 Before 1 March 2009         Loss of deposit

After 1 March 2009            If place is filled – loss of deposit

                                           If place is not filled – loss of full charge

INSURANCE:  Insurance in case you need to cancel, or for your instrument, is NOT included in the cost. Please arrange your own insurance if you need this.
